About

Aswin Subramanyan traces his astrological roots through his maternal lineage, which spans over 350 years. He began reading charts under the close guidance of his granduncle, who would allow him to lead client readings while stepping in gently when needed. This hands-on learning, within the framework of an oral tradition, shaped Aswin’s early understanding of astrology, not just as a technical skill, but as a way of engaging with life and people.

While his foundation is firmly rooted in the classical tradition of Jyotiṣa, Aswin has gone on to explore Hellenistic and Medieval Persian astrology, appreciating the depth and nuance they bring. Rather than treating these systems as separate, he integrates their wisdom into his work in a way that remains respectful to their origins and coherent in practice.

This course is his way of extending a tradition that has remained within his family for generations. With sincerity and care, Aswin invites students into a learning environment that values both heritage and thoughtful exploration, where techniques are taught, but context, meaning, and integrity are never forgotten.

Precursor to Saturn-Mars Conjunction
Mars in Aquarius without reception from Saturn can flare things up and blow them out of proportion, which has been the case for the most part. Mars in Pisces, however, is an entirely different expression altogether. Without going into the mundane aspects, I am going to strictly discuss only the personal dimensions of what Mars in Pisces can offer. Mars, considered as the planet of war, can easily be taken very literally, and within that unidimensional vision, it is easy to forget the purpose...

Reconsidering the Horse in the Rig Veda
In a recent social media exchange on Vedic ritual traditions, a critique was raised suggesting that the Vedas were not composed within the Indian subcontinent. One of the key arguments presented in support of this view was that horses were not native to India, and therefore the prominence of the horse in the Rig Veda must point to an external origin of the text. This line of reasoning is in alignment with the older migration-centered models of early Indo-Eurasian history, called the Aryan...

When Critique Ignores Framework: On Debility in Traditional Astrology
Criticisms and attacks on traditional astrology are most often made by those who have not spent serious time studying the subject. Usually they claim to “ rethink ” traditional doctrines while engaging only with surface-level ideas about them. One such example is an article I read that attempts to critique essential dignity by focusing on Venus in Virgo. The reason I am not quoting the author or referring to that one particular article is because of two reasons. One is that I am trying to...
