A Mundane Judgment on Iran’s Leadership

Iran is going through a period of serious turmoil, arguably the most intense since 1979. Naturally, this has generated a wide range of political opinions about what is happening and what may happen next. Most people approaching this situation will do so from an ideological or emotional position. Astrologers too are no exception, and I assume there are already many strong astrological opinions circulating, even if I have not followed them closely. What I want to do here is something simpler and more limited. This is not a political argument, and I am only offering a traditional mundane astrological reading, primarily with reference to leadership, using ingress charts. Aries ingress 2025
In the Aries ingress chart for 2025, cast for Tehran, the Midheaven and its ruler immediately stand out. In medieval tradition, the Midheaven and its lord signify the condition of the ruler of a nation.
Here, the lord of the Midheaven is Mars, and it is placed in Cancer, its sign of fall, in the 1st house. Mars in fall is a classic indication of weakness, loss of control, or a decline in the ability to act decisively. When the significator of leadership is both debilitated and placed in the 1st house, the symbolism points to leadership being under direct strain from the condition of the nation itself.
This technique is a strong one and has shown consistent results historically, especially when repeated across multiple years. Looking back at the Aries ingress of 2024, also cast for Tehran, we see something similar. In that chart, the lord of the Midheaven was Saturn, placed in the 12th house. The 12th house is traditionally associated with loss, decline, and withdrawal, and among the cadent houses it is considered particularly weak.
Across two consecutive Aries ingresses, therefore, the significator of leadership appears in places that suggest erosion rather than stability. This does not, by itself, announce an immediate end or collapse, but it does indicate a continuing process of decline or pressure.
Medieval authors note that when the Aries ingress rises in a cardinal sign, judgment ideally requires all four ingresses of the year: Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn. Aries can still be used as a root chart, but it should not be read in isolation. Even so, the Aries ingress often carries the seed of the year’s central themes, and those themes are already visible here.
The condition of the nation and its people
In the 2025 Aries ingress, the Moon, ruler of the Ascendant, is placed in the 6th house in Sagittarius. In mundane astrology, the Moon describes the people and their general condition. The 6th house points to struggle, effort, illness, and situations where daily life becomes burdensome.
This symbolism fits well with the economic pressure faced by the Iranian population. The sharp fall of the Iranian currency against the US dollar and the resulting inflation have placed enormous strain on ordinary people. From an astrological point of view, the Moon in the 6th does not explain causes, but it does describe a population operating under sustained stress.
Capricorn Ingress 2025
While the Aries ingress gives an overview, the Capricorn ingress seems especially important in understanding the relationship between leadership and the people.
In this chart, Cancer rises, with Jupiter exalted in the 1st house. The Ascendant represents the nation itself, and Jupiter in exaltation suggests that the people retain strength, resilience, or moral confidence, even if they are under pressure.
The Moon, however, is placed in Capricorn, its sign of detriment, in the 7th house, where it is in a wide conjunction with Mars. In this chart, Mars rules the Midheaven and therefore signifies leadership. Mars is exalted here, while the Moon is weakened. This already tells a story of imbalance.
The Moon and Mars sharing the same sign points to direct contact between the people and leadership, but not harmony. The opposition between Jupiter in the 1st house and Mars in the 7th reinforces this further. Symbolically, this shows the nation and its leadership standing against each other rather than working together.
This kind of configuration usually describes ongoing tension rather than resolution. It suggests a standoff that continues, rather than a quick or clean outcome. From this chart, that tension appears likely to persist at least until the next Aries ingress in 2026.
Venus, the ruler of the 4th house, is placed in the 6th house. The 4th house relates to the land, housing, and general well-being of the people. Its ruler in the 6th suggests continued hardship, particularly in relation to basic stability and living conditions. This does not point to immediate relief.
Aries ingress 2026
In the Aries ingress of 2026, Libra rises again, confirming that judgment must involve all four ingresses. Venus, ruler of the Ascendant, is placed in Aries, its sign of detriment, in the 7th house. This describes a nation operating in an uncomfortable and confrontational environment.
Saturn is also in Aries, debilitated in the 7th house. Saturn signifies authority, structure, and institutions. Its condition here indicates strain and weakening in oppositional relationships. The ruler of the 7th house, Mars, is placed in the 6th house in Pisces, closely conjoined with Rahu. This points to imbalance and diffusion within areas related to service, conflict, or security, with indications of foreign involvement or external pressure. The conjunction with Rahu suggests confusion, exaggeration, or loss of clarity.
Although Jupiter offers a form of reception to Mars, this is weak. Mars is in Pisces, while Jupiter is in Cancer, the sign of Mars’ fall. This is the case of non-reception according to Sahl ibn-Bishir as Mars doesn't like anything that comes from Cancer. It is almost like Mars rejects Jupiter's reception from Cancer and therefore, indicating no meaningful support or restoration of authority. Instead, Mars appears scattered and ineffective resulting in impulse actions.
At the same time, the Midheaven is in Cancer, with Jupiter exalted in the 10th house. This is significant. Jupiter here indicates a shift or reorientation in leadership. Importantly, Jupiter in Cancer in the 10th house does not indicate authoritarian consolidation. Yet, it looks more like change driven by circumstance and pressure eventually indicating a shift away from the authoritarian regime.
Final Thoughts
These ingresses describe a period of instability and strain affecting Iran, its leadership, and its people. The charts consistently show pressure, imbalance, and confrontation, but they do not point to a clean or immediate resolution. Both the Libra and Capricorn ingresses of 2026 reinforce the idea that the year ahead is difficult and unsettled. Whatever form events eventually take, the symbolism suggests that this is not a stable period for leadership, nor an easy one for the population. Mundane astrology describes the conditions under which events unfold. In that spirit, one can only hope that the people of Iran are able to navigate this period with as little suffering as possible.
