Full Moon in Pisces

With Saturn in retrograde motion in Pisces, this lunation in Uttarabhādrapadā is an important trigger point, helping us become more aware of the times we are living in and of the resources that will carry us through the rest of the year. As crazy as it may sound, we are almost at the final quarter of the year, with the September Equinox having just passed.

The Moon in Uttarabhādrapadā is an emotional trigger point that awakens both emotional and rational awareness, something much needed for us to understand the difference between the time for action and the time for restraint. Ahirbudhnya, the deep and formidable serpent of the waters, is the deity of this Nakshatra. If we imagine such a creature, it is humongous and infinitely strong. Yet precisely because of its immense nature, it cannot move constantly. It waits for the right moment to show up and act. When it does, the force it unleashes is calamitous and unimaginable.

There is an interesting parallel in the story of Odysseus (Book 21 , The Odyssey by Homer). After returning to Ithaca, Odysseus does not immediately reveal himself. He waits and remains concealed while he observes, prepares and allows the circumstances to unfold around him. His moment comes only when Penelope sets the contest of the bow, when the very instrument that represents his strength becomes the means through which his identity is revealed. The moment he has been waiting for finally arrives, and what follows is swift and decisive. This is an interesting way of understanding Uttarabhādrapadā: immense power does not need constant movement. It just waits for the moment when action becomes necessary and when that moment arrives, there is no hesitation.

If we translate this symbolism into our lives at this point, the Moon's transit through Uttarabhādrapadā becomes a trigger point that allows us to prepare emotionally for action. With Mars' transit earlier this year helping us make progress towards fulfilling the promise of the year, this Full Moon becomes a psychological trigger point, reminding us to be ready for the right time to do the right thing, which is essentially the nature of Uttarabhādrapadā.

Saturn is the significator of time, and Saturn's retrograde motion is helping us review, reorganise and reassess the Piscean areas of our lives. But once Saturn turns direct on December 11, 2026, at the 9th degree of Pisces, the quality of this process begins to change. One factor we need to remember with Saturn transiting Pisces is how, at times, we are forced to unburden ourselves of what is no longer serving the purpose of our lives. While this may feel uncomfortable initially, it is ultimately helpful, although we may only begin to recognise its value early next year, when Saturn turns direct.

This is one final opportunity for us to let go of what needs to part from our lives as we prepare to move forward. I say "final" because this is the last retrograde phase Saturn will make in Pisces during this passage through the sign. Pisces helps us dissolve, while Saturn forces us to confront the structures, attachments and burdens that need to dissolve. That dissolution, however uncomfortable, is almost always necessary.

Dissolution prepares us for the next rise. It is what allows us to rebuild and prepare for the coming year and, more importantly, for Saturn's eventual entry into Aries, where we begin building new structures after everything that needed to be dissolved has been cleared away.

Interestingly, Mars will be in Leo by then, preparing us for the final staging of our lives that requires action and that will swiftly carry us into the next quarter, early 2027. The Full Moon is less about immediate action and more about recognising the need to get emotionally ready to act when the time comes!
